Have I been scammed?

First of all, I know you should never lend someone gear fully expecting to get it back so this isn't a rant.

About two months ago I lent a clanny my +10 homu sword because he had busted his trying to OE it to +4. His SH was almost in B grade and I lent him my +10Homu and told him I'd help him craft a SoV once he got to 52. I've tried to contact him in game and through this forum but shortly after lending him the sword some of his toons dropped out of my clan. So, I'm trying to figure out the following:

1. Do you think I've been scammed? He's married and recently had a child and can be very busy and he's gone extended periods without playing.

2. What if anything should/can I do?

Also, If he(you) read this post please respond, even if it is to tell me I've been scammed. I really want to know so that I can reorganize the toons that I won't be able to use for awhile.

thx

I don't play Lineage II but your best bet would be to talk to a GM and ask if you can have a item replaced. Sometimes they can help you get your items back.

Now the guy might of scammed you. Does he still play? Does lineage have a website to look up players? If he's not playing anymore it may be because of money problems also.

Hmmmm. I see you loaned it to him about two months ago...how long has he been gone? Sometimes RL can get the better of you and he may not think it's a big deal that he has it, so is not in a hurry to log in to give it back.

I am afraid to say that you may have been "taken" not necessarily scammed. I doubt this was his motive all along. But when given something worth what that item is potentially worth he may have decided to "take the money and run".

That being said, I would definatly give him the benefit of the doubt.

You should consider the worst of scenarios, and that is you got scammed nice and clean.

What can you do about it? Nothing. Stotan, in a dog-eat-dog game like L2, no GM would ever replace an item for you.

What you should do, is to never give anyone anything that you will miss parting with. That doesn't mean you have to be a jerk to them. So they blew up their +4 and need help? Go help them then. What do they need? Some AA to upgrade a lower item they have? Go help them farm SS in the catas then. Or if say this happened at higher levels with A grade and you had a spoiler you could go and help them spoil the recipe/mats. That is how L2 works. Don't ever give out full equipment that you cannot afford to lose.

And I remember back at around the time of C2 my own clan leader who was 35 years old with a family scammed a clanny out of his BW. Just because they seem "like a good guy" doesn't mean much really. Maybe he saw this as an opportunity since he cannot play very often to get this kind of gear for himself.

In any case, just put him on friends and if hes ever on talk with him. And next time at least take his email or something!

Ok, I was just trying to help. That really does suck man. I have played a few mmo's. I have never heard of a company not willing to help it customers for a paid game like this. I know they can't help everyone and I not saying they should but if the guy actually quit the game the gm could help by moving the item back. But I could see why they couldn't help with that either.

L2 GMs have always said they'll never replace an item lost due to an in-game scam that does not break the EULA or use some other exploit.

In fact the only time I think they EVER replaced lost items was on 2 occasions, once when raid bosses could be trained into major cities, killing all the afk players and causing them to drop gear and another time when using a 3rd party program allowed you to set up a craft shop for other players, then when they began to click repeatedly to craft things, the shop automatically stood up, changed its price to something extortionate and sat back down, all in the space of a second or so, meaning even the most eagle eyed player would have spammed the craft button a few times at the extortionate price.

If you loan gear and it's not given back, tough luck. If you buy something fairly but at an extortionate price for some reason, too bad. L2 is a harsh game, you get used to it.

hi facy pants, 1st what server are you on? if u are on bartz i will take the same risk with you, sense im on another l2 break. However, i have seen cases simmilar to this eventualy work themselves out with gear far more expensive then a +10 homu. My friend being in a simmilar situation as the guy u spoke of (new kid, family etc) has loaned people drak and other S grade items, some of the barrowers actualy quit the game during his abssense, the key to the solution however, was getting out of game contact info 1st, cuz IM's and email were what seemed to be the ultimate step in fixing the situation.

I'm playing on Saeriel(Server #15) in Korea. Which is bad because he was one of the few fluent English speaker I played with and enjoyed partying with him.

Yeah, I agree it could have been worse. Actually, it might be good to get scammed so I'll be more cautious in the future.

I'm considering it as a worse case scenario but still hoping to get it back. Plus giving him the benifit of the doubt because he was the only other acive clan mate of mine.

You need to play to understand.

THnx, 4 the replies sometimes it helps to get sympathy.

BUT other times it helps to get your item back^^ my clanmate logged in a short while ago and promptly gave back my sword. He was just really busy in RL. He made ikt to 52 and I helped him craft a SoV so it was a happy ending all around but if there's a next time I'll get some RL contact info 1st.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy myself. It would have sucked to lose a clanmate more than the weapon well...maybe ^^
