Hi all,
this is a text of an open letter intended for Ncsoft. Read it, and if you agree with it and wish to join the list of its supports, reply by a simple message saying your main character name. For security reason, i do not ask you any account or login name.
Thanks for your attention and support.
Dear Ncsoft, Lineage II team, developpers and GMs,
we, players of Lineage II, would like in the first place to thank you for your beautiful game that has been giving to us until now great moments of pleasure and enjoyment.
But we would like also to express our deep concern about what is becoming one of the main in-game problem for every serious player.
The adenas versus dollars business, or eBay-like business seems today to threaten the balance of the game, and above all the pleasure of the players. Everyone has noticed that the number of what we commonly call 'eBay farmers' has been increasing in great numbers. This term designates people (or bots) that are not real players but only persons who farm adenas to sell them later against dollars, using websites as eBay as their free advertising room. Most of them make whole areas of the game unplayable for normal players by their behaviour. On the other hand, the in-game economy is being totally unbalanced by hundreds of new players, buying millions of adenas online, and wearing without any effort the most expansive stuff.
This subject has been mentionned several times, some trying to minimize it by saying that it's almost the same in every MMORPG. But we are a small group of experienced MMORPG's players that can testify that this business has reached in Lineage II levels far above everything we have seen elsewhere. We are very concerned about the fact that the most serious players could decide to leave, as new MMOs like Everquest 2, which would be considered as 'cleaner games', will be soon released.
On the other hand we are aware that this problem is not only the fact of the sellers but also of the people who buy. But we are compelled to recognize that nothing has been done to discourage them to do so. Not even a single 'in-game' announcement.
We greatly hope that Ncsoft will truly become aware of the problem and take the appropriate measures to stop what is becoming worse and worse each day. We think that what has been done until now is totally unsufficient. We all wish a very clear and energic stance and action from Ncsoft about this matter, not only to discourage sellers but also buyers.
Thanks very much in advance for considering the problem, and please receive the best regards from all the players.

Part about announcements is not entirely true (thought it might have been back in OB), but I have seen announcements online regarding these matters.
Here are a few quotes from the official forum:
RE: Avoid Getting Banned -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Be aware however, that if you duped an item "just to try it out" you will get banned. DhevrinNC
RE: Intellectual Property, Lineage 2, and Adena Sellers - The Legal Issues -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The legal issues of intellectual property are extremely complex and there is no international standard on this issue. We are working with Ebay and other entities to shut down such sales as best as possible. But even with Ebay, we've had to go through a lot from the customer support area to be in their VERO (sale of intellectual property) program. We've been working with them on it for the last few weeks, and hopefully it will be implemented sometime in the very near future. DhevrinNC

for a short while, names of ppl that were banned were even on the boards http://boards.lineage2.com/tm.asp?m=304615 (this was the Lionna list, but its gone now)
I do however agree that somethins MUST be done SOON. |

Hi all,
I have updated the letter. I will only add one name/character per player. The further result of this letter will be in proportion of your support. Today, nobody can ignore anymore the famer/bot problem.
Thanks for your understanding and support ! |

Definitely include me in the list...
I have played many MMOGs in the past and have found L2 to be the worst with regards to bots and farmers. I love the game for its graphics, Chronicle 1 supposed additions, the MUSIC! and playability.
However...
I am strongly considering dropping L2 because 1) I can't seem to find a place to hunt w/o running into farmers or bots, 2) I seem to be the only player who has no major items of good quality because: 3) I am always near being broke and lastly (I know this is a bit off topic), 4) you can't get NG SS in shops anymore - need to always find someone who bought the entire stock and is making 1-2 Adena profit per SS.... plain annoying.
Oh well.... got it off my chest.
